The set of HLA alleles are associated with a wide variety of disease states.  Some of the more common HLA – disease associations are listed here.

 

What diseases are associated with HLA-A?

The diseases associated with HLA-A include: ankylosing spondylitis, celiac disease, type 1 diabetes, Graves’ disease, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and multiple sclerosis.

What diseases are associated with HLA-B?
The diseases associated with HLAB include ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes, Crohn‘s disease, celiac disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, and narcolepsy.

What diseases are associated with HLA-C?
The diseases associated with HLAC include psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis, Behcet‘s disease, type 1 diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn‘s disease.

What diseases are associated with HLA-DPA1?
The diseases associated with HLA-DPA1 include celiac disease, type 1 diabetes, Graves’ disease, autoimmune hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.

HLADPB1 is associated with a variety of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, and systemic lupus erythematosus.

HLADRB1 is associated with various autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren‘s syndrome, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases, type 1 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis.

What diseases are associated with HLA-DRB3?
HLADRB3 is associated with a variety of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, Sjogren‘s syndrome, and multiple sclerosis. It is also associated with a predisposition to certain types of infections, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

The diseases associated with HLADRB4 include sarcoidosis, Sjogren‘s syndrome, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, Graves disease, Hashimoto‘s thyroiditis, type 1 diabetes mellitus, Addison‘s disease, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriasis, vitiligo, and multiple sclerosis.

What diseases are associated with HLA-DRB5?
HLADRB5 is associated with a number of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren‘s syndrome, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and autoimmune hepatitis. It has also been associated with an increased risk for Behcet‘s disease, type 1 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis.

What diseases are associated with HLA-G?
HLAG is associated with a number of autoimmune diseases, including type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Graves disease, multiple sclerosis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
